Sleep Out for Mid West Simon

Well done to Niamh Gleeson, Legal Secretary, and Donal Creaton, Partner, who are took part in the Thomond Park Corporate Sleep Out “Rise Together” event on 18th November to raise much needed funds for the Mid West Simon Community. 21 individuals from Limerick and Clare took part and have raised over €20,000 to date.

Mid West Simon’s CEO, Jackie Bonfield, paid tribute to all who took part, on what was a freezing Winter’s night, saying:

“Without the support of the business community in Limerick and Clare, we would be unable to provide a year round service from our food banks. Everyone who supported us in the sleep out is ensuring that people in the region, who are in need of long or short-term help, are catered for. For that, we are deeply appreciative.”

Niamh Gleeson commented,

“I couldn’t have been happier to take part in this event. The whole event was run really well. The sleep out itself was difficult. It was cold and uncomfortable and hard to get any sleep. How do the homeless get through a night on the street without the thought of heat and rest being only a couple of hours away?”

Donal Creaton commented,

“I felt that this was a great cause to support and I have certainly benefited from being involved. We all know that people can find themselves homeless for many reasons but what we know for certain is that their status condition will not improve by being left homeless with society abdicating any responsibility for them. One certainly got a sense of the anxiety felt by homeless people on the night in question. I never kept such a tight eye on the weather and one can only feel for the people who have to do this on a daily/nightly basis. Thankfully we have the good people who are volunteers for Simon and hope that our efforts involving fundraising will go some way towards finding a solution to this very sad state of affairs. Thanks to everyone who supported myself and Niamh in this very worthwhile fundraising event.”
