Our continuous improvement journey progresses with a number of projects, training, consultant initiatives and membership of the Mid-West Lean Network from which the firm and our clients are beginning to reap the rewards.
We continue with our commitment to quality and knowledge through our own lifelong learning and development with an unprecedented investment in further education and qualifications this year. We have grown and developed our in-house training programme for personnel year on year, which includes our leadership and innovation series, in addition to our legal sector focus and management and professional skills.
We have just announced the launch of our HOMS Employee Assistance Programme, comprising a range of support services for employees and their immediate families, provided by VHI. Together with our new incentive schemes, we are offering our HOMS team the best supports and working environment in our history to date.
We were delighted to attend the University of Limerick Careers Fair in October. Margaret McInerney, Caitlín Love, Eoin Kennedy and Neil O’Doherty attended together with over 160 other companies. It proved a great opportunity to meet with students with an interest in pursuing law as a career from a variety of disciplines engaged in degree and post-graduate studies.
Our team also enjoyed delivering a law day to Ard Scoil Mhuire students.
We have again delivered our ‘Pathways to Success’ seminar to University of Limerick students and were pleased to have contributed to the School of Law’s excellent publication ‘The Complete Law School Survival Guide 2018/2019’ for their students.
Within our structured Transition Year Programme we welcomed our second cohort of students this year to enjoy a week in the life of our law firm.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Evening
Shannon Chamber hosted a dedicated CSR evening to showcase some of the projects companies in this area are undertaking and how their ‘giving’ benefits the region. We were delighted to be invited to showcase our HOMS CSR journey and hear of the wonderful and inspiring work and initiatives being undertaken by other organisations in the region.
Limerick Solicitors’ Bar Association, Barristers of the South Western Circuit and the Courts Service staff took to the dancefloor on 1st November at the South Court Hotel, Limerick, for the ‘Strictly Legal Eagles’ dancing event. Strictly Legal Eagles raised over €20,000 in aid of Children’s Grief Centre and Mid-Western Cancer Foundation. Our own dancers Donal Creaton, Ita Barrett and Sarah Falvey stepped out of their legal comfort zones and into their dancing shoes to help raise the funds.
Caitlín Love, Orla Donovan, Nicola Hackett and Eddie Hynes played for the Grade 5 event of the Limerick Lawn Tennis Club’s 2018 Floodlit Business League on 12th October along with six other teams.
We were also pleased to receive the ‘Best Supporting Company‘ certificate from Metis Ireland for participation in their monthly networking morning run.
Our Dublin office pounded the streets in the Run in the Dark in November in aid of Mark Pollock Trust and their mission to cure paralysis.
Well done to our HOMS Solicitors team who took part in the 20th Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon on 30th September. Our team completed the 5K and 10K race with over 3000 other participants raising funds for various individually selected charities and good causes.
Our team was out in force on Shannon Runway at 23:59, 22nd June, for the third year running for the last Shannon Airport Runway Night Run 2018. All our thoughts, well wishes and proceeds from this event went to two charities; Clare Crusaders and Share A Dream.
We supported, presented and attended at the Dublin Professional Negligence Lawyers Association (PNLA) Conference on 29th November. Michael Murphy, Partner, was one of ten speakers on the day in a fantastic line up of presenters and topics. Michael focussed on ‘Risk Minimisation strategies for professionals, including GDPR.’ Other topics included Statute of Limitations, the engineer as expert witness, cyber claims and a markets update. A wide variety of guests from both the insurance and legal sectors were welcomed to the event which showcased Ireland’s leading expertise and experience in professional negligence.
We were pleased to sponsor and take part in the Insurance Ireland Annual Fraud Conference 2018 on 23rd November at The Convention Centre Dublin. This year the conference theme was ‘Insurance Fraud in a Digital Age’.
The University of Limerick, in conjunction with SportsTech Ireland, hosted a two-day Master Class in Sports Entrepreneurship. George Kennedy, Partner, presented on legal issues facing entrepreneurs engaged in performance enhancement technology. He highlighted the obstacles which may be encountered in product development, ways in which intellectual property may be protected, as well as sources of funding and exits.
We welcomed our guests at the Look the Business Gloss event in October at the RDS. The evening of fashion and networking was attended by many successful and inspirational business women.
Congratulations to all of the winners of the Limerick Chamber Regional Business Awards 2018, in particular to Shannon Group Plc, the winner of ‘Best Overall’ and the ‘Best Large Business Contribution to the Region Award’, which we were again pleased to sponsor.
Congratulations to all the very worthy winners of the LIT New frontiers Start-Up Awards 2018, Enterprise Ireland. HOMS Solicitors, along with LIT, the Limerick Local Enterprise Office and Bridgewater Management sponsored the four awards. We were pleased to sponsor the Best Innovation Award which was won by Iain Gilmore, a former Irish National Tarmac Rally Champion. Iain said,
“The New Frontiers process allowed me to take my initial concept and develop it substantially, splitting it into three distinct products that we now are trialling in the Automotive Aftermarket.”
We hosted a special lunch on 4th July to thank supporters of EVA International, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art exhibition.
