HOMS News Issue 1 2019

I hope you are enjoying the summer. We have had a busy six months since our last edition.

We are coming to terms with Brexit. There has been much discussion of the negative impacts of this prolonged period of uncertainly. We are buoyed by the figures released by IDA, which suggest that since the UK’s referendum on EU membership in 2016, 70 Brexit-related investment have led to more than 5,000 jobs being created. George Kennedy, Partner, provided some interesting insights in his recent interview with Business Plus.

This optimism is evident in our partnership with clients on a number of significant transactions, for which those thought leaders should be commended. Our Dublin team assisted in the strategic acquisition of P2V Systems Limited by our client, ActionPoint Technology Group. Our Cork team led the sale of Vale Oil to East Cork Oil. The historic acquisition by University of Limerick of the former Dunnes Stores site, together with Limerick Twenty Thirty’s opening of its award-winning Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gardens International development, are transactions of which our team are particularly proud. We have also been involved in a number of ground breaking commercial litigation cases.

Exciting plans are afoot to celebrate our 50th year in business in 2020.

Our journey to make our firm a great place to work continues with a focus on wellness, mental health and fitness. Our team came second in the medium company category in the Great Limerick Run Fittest Company Challenge. We held our second “Together” Awards recognising our employees’ extraordinary talent, hard work and commitment which put you, our clients, at the very heart of our service.

We were honoured to sponsor the prestigious UL President’s dinner. This event, and the recent ranking of the University as second in the world for international students, is a testament to what can be achieved when businesses come together to support the community in which we operate. This philosophy has led us to a partnership with the charity Headway Ireland, which provides services and support to people affected by brain injury. We have been truly humbled and inspired by our engagement with this organisation.

Exciting plans are afoot to celebrate our 50th year in business in 2020. This special occasion has only been possible through your support over the years. We are also launching our LinkedIn Alumni group for past employees to stay in touch in recognition of their contribution to a momentous 50 years.

We sincerely thank you all for your continued support and we look forward to the next six months of working with you.

Kind regards,
Harry Fehily, Managing Partner
Holmes O’Malley Sexton
